Day 1

So here's the story. Joe decided that over winter break he was going to stalk craigslist to find any possible way to get across the country. He posted an ad to see if anyone needed a vehicle driven from New England to the Southwest, hoping to get to Arizona, but never really expected anything to come of it. Well, fast forward three weeks and, long story short, Joe and Caitlin are driving to Portland, Oregon.

The details of all this will unfold throughout the journey and don't worry, we will take plenty of pictures!

Here's a quick recap of today..

This morning we met a gentleman in Fitchburg, MA where the car was stored in a garage that had to be broken into in order to open. I realize this sounds really sketchy, but it actually isn't, you'll just have to take my word. After spending 45 minutes at a local tire store to pick up a spare tire we were off to return home and pack.

The drive to NYC was uneventful, except that my friend's GPS unit, affectionately named 'Martha', took us on a ridiculously round about route to Caitlin's apartment in lower Manhattan.

We also caught an awesome sunset as we went through Hartford, CT. This picture obviously does not do any justice to it, but perhaps we'll be able to see the difference in sunsets across the country if we can get several pictures throughout the trip.

We had a delicious dinner with Caitlin's aunt, Kathryn, and are off to bed in order to hit the road by 5am. I've promised Caitlin to warm to the car and pick her up in front of the apartment, since I am the one trying to get to Cincinnati, OH by early evening so that we can go out to dinner with my aunt and uncle.

This picture pretty much sums up the level of enthusiasm so far. Joe is excited about the brights lights while Caitlin can't believe we're driving through Time Square.

Tomorrow:
Early AM departure.
Possible brewery tour in Harrisburg, PA?
Dinner and an update from Cincinnati, OH
